I think of The Devil’s Avocado as an agitation expressed by recent generations, the type of agitation which leads to alt-right/far-right/bigoted conclusions.
For want of a better cause these people arrive at the avocado thru sheer boredom, apathy & feigned political interest.
An analogy for the knee-jerk reactionary solidarity between the millenial-red-pilled-maga-brexit-edgelord movement.
Those who deem it a good use of their time getting behind causes they couldn’t care less for, just to get in someones face.
Lyrically this record discusses the above mentioned selfish & apathetic people and adversely the romantically aimless (though good intentioned) people.
Sonically speaking its a regressive listen, stripping the instrumentation to guitars, drums & vocals.
No pianos No synthesisers No futurism - perhaps maybe trying to get back in touch with the old sound of humanity.
Before the machines led us astray to troll one another online.
It’s also a pun (it came to me in a dream I swear).
